Everyone who is over 50 remembers where they were when President Kennedy was shot and everyone over 20 remembers where they were when the news of the twin towers, pentagon and Pa corn field hit.
But what does that event mean today? I am sure it means different things to everyone and especially for those families that were directly affected by the events. No words of comfort can bring back their loved ones.
I remember that it was a beautiful fall morning and I was teaching a class on media at Worcester State College. I had the classroom door open and one of my colleagues was walking down the hall and poked her head in and said that a plane had flown into the World Trade Center towers in NYC. My immediate reaction was that the plane was probably a small Cessna or a touring helicopter that had gone off course.
Imagine the amazement when I saw what was really happening. And I am confident that you shared the same amazement.
What does that mean today? Well, we have a war going on as a result of that action. We are paying more for gas and heating fuel than ever before and we have a country divided politically.
But more important than all that is the fact that thousands of families will never be the same again. For that, we should all be sorry! Hug your family members. Say "I love you" to your kids and spouse each morning. Put a smile on your face! You live in America, still the best place in the world!
How do you feel? Would love to hear your comments.
